Q: What is electrolysis?
A: Electrolysis is the science of permanent hair removal. Using state-of-the-art technology, a minute amount of electricity is gentlyf applied to the base of the hair follicle, which destroys hair growth cells, eliminating its ability to regenerate. Regardless of the cause; heredity, metabolic or hormonal, electrolysis will permanently remove unwanted hair.

Q: What areas can be treated?
A: Electrolysis is safe and effective on all hair and skin types. It can be applied to most areas of the face and body including: eyebrows, chin, upper and lower lip, jaw, cheeks, breast, underarms, abdomen, bikini line, legs, arms, and back. Based on an individualized consultation, we will design a treatment plan that adresses your specific hair removal needs.

Q: Is it permanent?
A: Yes! Electrolysis is the only true permanent hair removal method recognized by the FDA. Although laser hair removal  is often advertised as being permanent, it is considered a temporary method and has not been evaluated for long-term safety of the patient’s skin and health.

Q: How long does it take?
A: Many factors affect the time it takes to permanently remove unwanted hair. The hair growth cycle, the quantity and structure of the hair, previous use of temporary hair removal methods, heredity, hormone function, certain medications, and stress all can influence the treatment program for each individual. A more accurate assessment can be made during your consultation based on your specific factors and needs.

Q: What does electrolysis feel like? Will it hurt?
A: While each individual is different and tolerance varies greatly from one person to the next, even the most sensitive person can be treated. If discomfort occurs, a topical cream can be applied ahead of time.

Q: Is electrolysis safe?
A: Absolutely. The electrical current utilized in electrolysis is not dangerous. It is negligiable and has no hazardous effects. The electrologist controls the flow of current at every stage.

Q: Are there any possible side effects? Should I be concerned about scarring?
A: Immediatley following treatment, there may be temporary redness or tenderness, which varies with each individual as well as the area of body being treated. Concern over the risk of scarring can be eliminated by understanding how electrolysis treatment works. An electrolysis probe does not pierce the skin during treatment, rather the probe slides into the follicle after which a controlled delivery of current is passed into the follicle destroying the hair-generating cells deep within the follicle.

Q: How do I know it will work for me?
A: Electrolysis works for everyone and is safe and effective for all skin types, hair types, skin colors, hair colors, and all areas of the body.

Q: Is it safe to get electrolysis treatements during pregnancy?
A: Yes. Unwanted hair can be caused by hormonal changes brought on by pregnancy. Electrolysis can be performed on any normal skin, including during pregnancy. If you are concerned, we suggest you seek the advice of your physician before beginning treatment.

Q: Do electrologists follow appropriate infection control procedures?
A: All electrologists should follow the most recent written standards for infection control from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Association for Practitioners in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). You will receive a single use electrolysis probe and sterile tweezers at every appointment.
